President Obama Nominates Willie Richardson to be U.S. Marshal for the Middle District of Georgia

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, President Obama nominated Willie Lee Richardson, Jr., to be United States Marshal for the Middle District of Georgia.  Richardson currently holds the rank of Supervisory Criminal Investigator in the United States Marshals Service. “Willie Richardson has distinguished himself throughout a long career in public safety,” President Obama said.  “I am grateful for his service and pleased to nominate him to continue protecting his fellow Americans as a United States Marshal.”  Willie Lee Richardson, Jr., to be United States Marshal for the Middle District of Georgia Willie Richardson is currently employed with the United States Marshals Service.  He joined the Service in 1989 and presently holds the rank of Supervisory Criminal Investigator.  From 1986 to 1989, he was employed with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, Valdosta, Georgia, as a Deputy/Investigator.  Mr. Richardson received an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science from the Community College of the Air Force in 1984, and served in the United States Air Force from 1981 to 1985

In capital habeas proceedings, circuit court’s order reversing a district court’s grant of a habeas petition is reversed where it was objectively unreasonable for a state court to conclude that there was no reasonable probability the sentence would have been different if the sentencing judge and jury had heard the significant mitigation evidence that petitioner’s counsel neither uncovered nor presented, including evidence of petitioner’s mental health or mental impairment, his family background, or his military service.
