Remarks by the President to the Business Roundtable

I want to thank John for the great work that he’s been doing with our team. And thank you all. Welcome to Washington. It is wonderful to be back here with the men and women of the Business Roundtable. Home values in too many parts of the country have plummeted. And too many businesses are still reluctant to invest and expand. And what’s more, this recession follows what some have called the “lost decade” -– a decade in which the average family income fell while the costs of health care and tuition skyrocketed; a decade in which a continued erosion of America’s manufacturing base hollowed out many communities around the country and put too many good jobs out of reach.
